Ashwini said...

You can very well attempt civil services,Since you are saying u need to support your family also, First u Secure a Job and support ur family and simultaneously can start studying for Civil services also. There are lot of people who are working and studying as well. In any case u need to Hard work that the key to success.

Getting Old NCERT is little tough, u may have to contact people who have written Civil services earlier, they may have it. The old text books were not available in market mostly after the NCERT Political science book's Cartoon hungama in parliament.
Otherwise try to download it, as you can find them online also.

Anonymous said...

hello i completed B.E in civil but i m interested in civil service. As i m in job now i know the demerits of civil engineering for eg:i want to stand in site for whole day to engage labours. so before preparing for civil service exam i want to know the demerits suffered by kas officers.so that if the demerits are ok to me i can plan to prepare for exam living engineering field.

Unknown said...

hello all, can anyone share their experience of GS papers? i could not manage time in the exams. please share about the writing skills in KAS optionals exams. BTW my optionals are Public administration and Kannada literature..

Anonymous said...

dont comment without knowing my status please

Ashwini said...

There is just one simple difference between 1.civil service and 2.Civil Engineering i.e for the first one you need to serve the people and for the next one U should use your engineering abilities in infrastructural development of Society. In any case if you choose the field Be determined to serve the people instead of worrying about demerits of the Job profile.

@Ananymous,

I guess Raghavendra Did not mean to hurt you by his comment.Take his words positively, Just think logically, There are thousands of people who are successful inspite of their problems. Success Without struggle is just simple, But when you succeed with all your problems will create History... Study well Worry less...:)

Unknown said...

Am sorry if had hurt you. But why you want to share your status here or where ever. Do you think telling you are poor will help you become KAS officer or whatever? Take it as a challenge and fight and I am sure you will succeed with your hard work.

Anonymous said...

@soumya: a senior aspirant had suggested me not to venture into complex aspects of public administration, keep the answers simple and straight was his advice.papers would be corrected by pol science prof's was the reasoning given.

Hi ashwini
iam planning to take KAS exam in kannada medium. is it possible to crack this exam in kannada medium. if der is any such examples plz let me know pleeeeeeeez.

Ashwini said...

@Anita Surya,

Definitely there are lot of people who have cleared the Exam with Kannada medium. (I do not see any point in worrying about the Medium of writing).I am sure you will also be one among them in coming future, provided you work hard :)

Anonymous said...

Even I couldn't complete both the GS papers bcoz of mismanagement of time. Including both the papers, I left around 70 marks totally unattended. I had to leave 34 marks of Statistics even though i knew solutions for some of those questions. Hoping to learn the lesson n complete next papers at least. I believe, if you complete the answers within the word limit and to the point, u'll be able to complete the paper and score as well. One of my optional is pub ad too.. All the best for the exam...

Anonymous said...

im very sorry, dont feel bad

Are science subjects in kpsc are scorable

Unknown said...

thank you very much :) :) in fact i dint see your reply before the exam but i wrote the papers by using simple terms because only such terms came in my mind while writing irrespective of all sorts of mugging up principles, procedures bla bla bla... ;)

Unknown said...

thanks! you are better than me :( mine is also the same case in statistics, i learnt a lot from GS experience and somehow managed to attempt all the questions in PUB AD at my level best, how about u? i agree with your point regarding management of word limits and do you have any experiences of IAS or KAS mains in previous years?? if yes, pls give suggestions based on those experiences also...

Unknown said...

you can also do it! i will suggest you to read about and think of people who achieved it despite of economic problems whenever you feel down, dont loose hope until you reach the goal...aswini has given you some proper guidelines, you can follow them also, all the best :) :)

Anonymous said...

Science subjects usually give good marks. Just have a look at the previous papers available on the KPSC website.I agree with the moderator, medium should not be a concern. The best expression of views is what matters according to me.

Anonymous said...

Actually i written exam this time with maths......paper was easy but too length, n i attended only for 400 marks... Now I need clarification that whether they ll give ful marks for right answer r ll they go through each step ........n for wrong answer ll they give marks for steps..... Plz reply me....... Last time highest score was 270

Anonymous said...

In maths ll give full marks for right answers.... N do we get marks for steps in wrong answers....

Anonymous said...

good going.. All d best

It is actually very difficult to say about how they award marks. U ve done your best, concentrate on the next. And please guys out there reading these comments, dont come to a conclusion that science subjects are tough, but i sincerely request to consult a senior aspirant, about the selection of optionals. It is a very crucial part of these examinations.

Unknown said...

Sorry for replying late... First of all, Happy new year 2013... I've written IAS Mains two times n KAS mains this time. I guess that u may not need suggesstions anymore!!! Generally, understanding the concepts is very important, and if u combine theories in ur answers, with real time examples here n there, u can score good marks. Most of the questions demand arguments. There should be an argument in ur answer, a balanced one. Start directly, end with optimism. There shouldn't be any pessimism or anti government arguments unless u've a strong point. I hope these points might prove to be helpful to u/others in future :-)

I'm not degrading anyone. The point is her lack of belief in herself that will pull her away from success. Housewife Madam, I'm sorry, if you dont have belief in yourself, no matter what, u cant succeed in anything. I guess u r getting my point here...

Ashwini said...

Don't Have any idea on Cutoffs. Yesterday itself Exams are over, two days back i read in Prajavani paper that Mains results + Interview final results will be completed within April.

Anonymous said...

Hi Ashwini,
Good to see some one help others by keeping her or his work aside.
I my self have appeared UPSC (upto interview) and KPSC interview 2008. This time too have written the mains.
What we expect from question is seriousness and answer should be reality based and motivating. We need the serious peoples towards the work.

Unknown said...

thanks a lot and its k :) even i am also replying late! wish u too a happy and prosperous new year.. may your IAS dream come true this year. i haven't given my attempt in IAS yet, i think its difficult to understand the trends and tactics without the suggestions of "senior aspirants" , currently i am totally isolated (reluctant to choose friends, in fact dint find any with strong determination :( and usually selected people are fed up of preparation and busy with their work and "sometimes" outdated!! ) and felt that its better if i take any test series for IAS(and KAS!;)) prelims, i think it will speed up my preparation in terms of quality (i am not taking coaching anywhere and i evaluated myself that i am not that perfect to be confident about preparation strategy), pls share your experiences if you had taken any test series and also suggest any institute for test series in Bangalore (i dont think online test series will create seriousness and my parents wont let me to attend test series in Delhi).. i got your point regarding writing skills but still i may get some doubts as my preparation grows. so i will ask them later and finally i request you to delineate your suggestions (hope you will not deteriorate your patience because of plenty of questions! ).

Unknown said...

lolzzz.. pragmatic reply!! i think its quite impossible to guess our own marks itself(that too in 1st attempt).. what do you say??

Unknown said...

as far as i have heard, sa shi marullaiah and narahalli classes are nice, for 2nd paper no need to think about authors since its mentioned in syllabus itself and for 1 st paper you have to refer 2-3 books( which you feel better after going through the syllabus and previous year questions) available in bookstalls because all the topics are not covered in a single book. you can also refer some guide like books if you dont have literature background. hope i could convey the suggestions you needed.

Anonymous said...

hi reka r u from which background i mean r u from science or arts or commerce wat

Unknown said...

Questions are plenty but concern is the same. I think I understood ur concern :-)

Even though I was in Delhi, I didn't take GS coaching or any test series. Self preparation is ideal for GS. Test series for prelims is totally waste. It'll just kill ur time and confidence without any help for prelims. I suggest u NOT to take any test series for prelims.

Regarding trends and tactics for UPSC prelims, there is no fixed trend there. There has been drastic changes in each year. For example, in 2011 prelims, many questions were current affairs, geography related, but in 2012 it was very much different. So it is dangerous to prepare for any particular trend. This makes ur prep tougher but u r more likely to clear if u prepare for everything.

Coaching might be useful for the very beginners, but since u've already written KAS mains, no need for GS coaching or test series.

Refresh NCERT textbooks from 8th till 12th slowly, Bipan Chandra's Struggle for Independence is mandatory for History. Daily cover up India's relations with other important countries, (one country/day), The Hindu newspaper daily and one magazine (Chronicle/Civil Services Times/Pratiyogita Darpan). Read selected topics from India Year Book, Economic Survey, monthly Yojana, Kurukshetra. All these are regarding CSAT Paper 1. I'm a very bad advisor for Paper 2, so i will skip that part ;-)

I guess i can type howmuch ever i want in this reply. I mean no word limits ;-)just kidding....

Unknown said...

I think its foolish even to attempt calculating our marks or cut offs in these exams!!! Best thing is to just forget about the exam after writing it and concentrate on next level. Cut off eshTu, result yavaga, notification yavaga, interview yavaga, naanu pass agtina, marks eshTu.... Come on ppl!!!

Anonymous said...

@Soumya Dolly; hi i wil b writing kas this year for the first time, i have selected public administration as one of my optionals so pls guide me on it. And also which books u had referred . Pls reply

Ashwini said...

In Economy You should understand the concepts, First u understand the concepts by reading Indian Economy books itself and for Karnataka Economy if you are not getting the books then you have to manage with Karnataka Economic survey you might get it online or check with others.

SK said...

I can add something to it, Read the basics of economics and as far as KAS is concern stress should be more on Karnataka Eco survey. Notes of various schemes and new policies as well as the agri fiscal reform you will understand there. 2011 Pre of KAS eco. questions were straight from Kar. eco survey. For mains, my experience is Indian Eco survey selected parts are emmensly helpful.

Unknown said...

sorry for replying late, thanks for understanding my concern and delineating every point especially your views about test series :)

Unknown said...

thanks for accentuating my opinion :)

Unknown said...

i have both science and management background in academics, one has to choose an optional based on "interest" . It plays a major role during our preparation. because we have to right for 300 marks in 3 hrs unlike all other academic exams. everything has to be in your mind and this would be possible if u give proper attention while reading the subject. i found the subject interesting but i can evaluate my efforts only by results :)

Unknown said...

i referred fadia & fadia , ramesh arora , mohit bhattacharya(gives analytical view) , sapru (for public policy) , avasti & maheshwari , prasad & prasad (administrative thinkers), laxmikanth (for p-2) etc and some random websites which i cant remember right now. but one has to refer the books which they find interesting and suitable according to syllabus and question paper trends. i think Mr.Nikhil can guide u better as he has written mains(UPSC) twice.

RaaJ said...

Hi..ashwin you are doing a great job for KAS aspirants...keep doing it...Thanks !! If possible , Can you post the analysis & approach of all papers prelims 2012 - paper 1 & 2 and Mains 2012 -public admin. and sociology ?? It will be very helpful for us all .

Ashwini said...

@Raaj,

I am very sorry on this, Since this is very tough job for me, firstly because am also preparing for KAS my time limits will not permit this. and secondly Since Sociology and Pub ad are not my subjects cant really say anything on this. I would leave this to other readers on the blog, i will be very thankful if candidates who appeared in mains will do this.

Let me see what i can do with General studies, will try my best may be i need some more time.

Any updates on KAS Mains evaluation? When shall weexpect the mains marks list?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the evaluators msg us constantly abt evaluation status!!! You can expect the mains marks list in KPSC website when they announce it!!! Stop thinking/asking abt the results. U've done ur job, prepare for next level, thats it. People, pls stop asking such questions n ask some useful stuffs (there r many).

Namdev said...

Doing any private business/profession is barred according to conduct rules. A govt servant would be civil servant entire 24hrs of day and till his retirement/resignation.

sorry for inconvenience , above reply is for a post(dated jan 14) by an anonymous who asked suggestions for Public Administration.

Anonymous said...

thanks for the saintly advice!! very few have saintly traits as u have, u r no one to advise wat to ask and wat not to! who r u to decide wat is useful for others? for many results are important at this stage! grow up!!

Anonymous said...

I'm not advising in the first place!!! I dont know what can be useful for others, but I'm sure that what u've asked here, which is entirely dependent on rumours n speculations, is defnitely useless here!!! Results are important for everyone, it doesn't mean u should pursue for speculations!!! Results will be announced officially, wait for it. I'm sure this is no site for the stuffs which u r seeking. I guess anybody who've sense here can notice who needs to grow up!!!

Anonymous said...

The "saint" seems to have ignored the fact that the moderator makes the choices on wat to publish and wat not to!! The question asked is legitimate, and the reply, definitely illegitimate....

Request to all,
Please do not put the time frame of result on your own.It may leads to un-trustworthiness of this site. Also it will defeat the very purpose of the author of this blog.
Your unwarranted timing may also depicts your non seriousness towards mains as well as result.
We all are eager to know our result, but, please let the KPSC do its job.

Every Field has anti Elements ... who strive continuously to defeat the purpose of the Organisation It stands for... Terrifying people with Irresponsible Lines can not be completely removed i believe...some times i even feel Its very easy to do good things than trying to remove the bad things...If you request more then... the more number of anonymous messages will pour in... sometimes I have seen comments which abuse the active commentators... I have to pick carefully and not publish them all... Since a week I am down with Typhoid... so unable to read all comments... some might be mistakenly published, I don't want to miss any good info because of late Publishing... Hence I apologize to all the Readers to cooperate in case any unwanted message published...

Ashwini said...

I don't have any idea on cut off, i think no one can actually say..KPSC itself will notify the cut off and other details very soon. so you will have to have patience till cut off is official...

Anonymous said...

HAI,ASHWINI MADAM,
THANK U SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY.WILL YOU PLEASE SHARE ME THE CUT OFF FOR C-I WOMEN IN GP-2010 MAIN EXAM

Anonymous said...

1:3 ratio dat means around 1090 people will be called for interviw

Anonymous said...

662 is little less to b called for interview even for women but no need to bother lets wait for official cutoff.

Anonymous said...

I dont think and hope cutoff will b more than 850. I've scored 870 and hoping for interview call.

guys share ur marks and some thoughts.

this is the only good blog for kas stuff ahwini ur doin a great job.

hai, madam
i'm totally upset by this eligibility lists one candidate has scored just 42.50 marks.that candidate is in this list.nearly 20-25 candidates of this has scored less than 650 marks.i really don't know how they are selected.will you please tell me about this selction.

Anonymous said...

Even am shocked... but i thought it might be Physical handicapped or some other persons. or a group or subject list where no one has scored above this person... Even am devastated at the information my friend gave me that how M factor playing with the life of Serious aspirants...

Anonymous said...

The candidate with 42.5 is an Ex-serviceman who studied B.Sc in CBZ stream in Bangalore University long ago and hence hardly scored any in the exam. Probably he is the only candidate in that category!!! But KPSC should notify minimum qualifying marks to get through mains. 42.5 out of 1800 means 2.36%!!! Come on!!! It is ridiculous!!! There ought to be some minimal standards to join public service!!! 20-25 candidates who've scored <650 probably belong to reserved categories (which is too much in KPSC) Hasnt Supreme court notified that at least 50% of posts should be unreserved and open for all? What is M factor by the way?

hai,madam
when will be the announcement of cut-off percentage?i've scored 690.when i saw the list more than 30 nearly 33 members has scored less than 650 marks.the selection rules was totally confused.i don't know what to do?wat is the cut-off for sc and c-I?can anyone guess it?

Anonymous said...

abhi kya shock laga hai bachho dekhte raho kya honewala hai final result tak. money i guess must be talking too much.but ive honestly did nothing of dat sort bribing, approaching kpsc members, nothing.and those who are doing so should be ashamed.
