Next Prelims Exam 2013???

I want to make one thing Very clear to all those who repeatedly ask about the Next prelims exam,
KPSC is yet to conduct 2011 mains exam itself, so for the Next Prelims there is still a Long WAIT ...
Keep reading the newspapers for the Exam announcements or visit KPSC official site. Meanwhile i will also post it when it is confirmed officially.

KPSC will give enough time for candidates to prepare thoroughly.Even if the Dates are announced it is subjected to Changes.

So all I want to say is, those who are going to write mains Pls prepare with confidence, you already had and going to have plentyyyy of time in your hands.

Those who are preparing for Next Prelims start your studies, You wont loose much if you prepare from now itself, instead will be more confident to face the exams.

Please do not write such comments in public forum, it will cause fear for many, specially to those who are very seriously preparing for exams. Have you yourself given money to anyone? then how o you say that.Just study well... and be honest in your approach.

Anonymous said...

I haven't given money to any one but if you are not a topper in your category u need to pay...n ma cousin brother has paid too..m just highlighting the facts happening in karnataka as a responsible citizen...and every one including you know that we need to pay...:-)

Ashwini said...

You are wrong, I don't know these things, till its personally experienced one should not comment like this... If you tell your Cousin's name next time here, Lokayukta will catch him along with who got the money... and they will book you as well because even after knowing this illegal activity you were quiet... kidding... Concentrate only on studies and be that topper who need not have to pay any one...

Hi Ashwini,

Your effort is helping a lot of KAS aspirants like me. Hats of to you.

I saw the cut off percentage for mains exam in KPSC website - Can you please help me with a clarification

The cut off marks for GM - 939.50 but for GM/K(Kannada medium)-997
The cut off marks for 2A - 844.50 but for 2A/K (Kannada medium)-889.50 and for 2A/R(Rural)-858

The purpose of reservation for kannada medium and Rural candidates is to help them so that they can qualify even if they get few marks less when compared to the regular candidates. But according to above cut off GM kannada medium student cannot quaify if he has scored 939 or even 996.50. But a regular GM candidate living in city can qualify even if he has scored only 939.50

Same way 2A Rural candidate cannot qualify even if he has scored 844 or even 857.50. But a regular 2A candidate living in city can qualify even if he has scored only 844.50

This is injustice right? Then what is the purpose of having reservation?

Can you please explain me how they have arrived at these cut off percentage. It will be helpfull if you can also explain the whole process after Interview and seclection of vacant post by candiddates, how the reservations are considered while candidates selecty posts etc.

Anybody in this forum please help me if you know about this process

Ashwini said...

this is just as per my understanding
Note: All numbers mentioned here are imaginary and just for sake of understanding.
If the total no of posts are some 350 then it will be divided between the Various categories like GM rural kannada OBC etc etc...
The ratio of persons to be called for interview is based on this Reservation to various categories.

Suppose the required no of Rural kannada candidates is some 30 then if the interview ratio is 1:3 then some 90 people of Kannada rural Candidates has to be called for interview. so If there are more than 90 candidates who scored above the marks you have specified... and less people from English might have scored more than 950 or so ... it may not be injustice...
Hence check how many students from kannada medium are called for interview on this basis... if its otherwise then we can tell injustice been done ... I hope my understanding is correct... Others if you have some other explanation pls do share....

Anonymous said...

I understood your concept..but if that concepet is true then RESERVATION is only luck based.

The actual cut off marks(published in KPSC website) for GM is 939.50 but for GM/K(Kannada medium) it is 997.

Lets say a GM/K candidate has scored 996. Then will he not get a chance to attend interview?

or will they consider him under GM category and allow him to attend interview as the cutoff for GM is 939.50.

Ashwini said...

As i said check how many kannada Medium GM candidates have scored above 997, Can you imagine that if that had happened to the GM English medium guys??? I don't know if kpsc is using some other technique in calling people for interview. If our understanding is right(calculating no of people called for interview), then injustice can happen to any group ,it is when we or our group don't get an opportunity we get hurt, otherwise its the same kind of problem that every group is facing, we should be open minded enough to analyse each one's problem,... and like you said it might be just luck that should save one.
I understand everything you said, but is there anything we can do about this...I can say that there are a lot of things in the world which are not fair enough to satisfy every one's needs... so many things are not in our hands... but one thing we can still do is try try till we reach the goal... stop analyzing the results (if its going no where) concentrate on next Level...

Ashwini said...

or will they consider him under GM category and allow him to attend interview as the cutoff for GM is 939.50

Sorry ,I am not sure about this...

KPSC still strugling to come up with solid rules and guidelines, this might be causing lot of irregularities and misconception among the aspirants.
I personally met some of 2006 batch friends they expressed these views how they struggled to get through all these
May be they can just copy the UPSC guidelines for conducting the exams and selection process to bring more transparency on selection for various posts.

The pattern of the competitive examinations conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) is all set undergo a sea change after a long gap of four decades.

A sub-committee constituted by the Commission is likely to table its report recommending the new system in a couple of weeks and gazette notification is expected by January next year.

Transparency

The new structure aims to put an end to unnecessary delay in completing recruitment process, reduce scope for political intervention in government appointments, bring in more transparency, introduce corporate work culture and enable candidates to equip themselves with latest administrative skills such as e-governance.

The proposed structure comprises limited number of subjects, negative marking system and restricted ratio for mains and interviews. It eliminates optional subject system (at present there are 30 subjects) and will have five papers, all compulsory.

Prelims & Mains

There will be one paper in the preliminary round with 150 questions, each carrying two marks. Half a mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

The main examination comprises five compulsory papers in three categories – Essay, Humanities and Science. Excluding the Essay paper, other will have 20 units dealing with varied issues instead of specific issues. The units in the papers are such that candidate of any background will find it comfortable to study and answer.

There will be 40 questions in the examination, two from each unit. But, it is compulsory to answer questions from all 20 units. Each paper will be for 200 marks, each question carrying 10 marks. Limited number of answer sheets will be given to candidates for answering within the given space. Three different evaluators will evaluate answer scripts.

Another feature is change in the ratio for mains and interview. Instead of the 1:20 from prelims to mains, it will be 1:5 and instead of 1:5 from mains to interview it will be 1:3.

The Commission is planning to invite applications for several posts early next year and candidates will have to follow the new structure.
